So, I took down my paintings from the salon Lola Ricci. But...Jennifer was kind of enough to ask for more stuff. My paintings had been up there for almost an entire year so I understand the need for something new. The request gave me a burst of momentum to create some more paintings. Enjoy!

Well, it's been quite some time since I've posted anything. I will say it's not because I haven't been painting. I've done a few commissioned pieces that I forgot to take pictures of. Damn! We went on vacation which was a pleasurable way to kill my productivity. Below is a project I worked on diligently right after we got back from Maui.I imagine that typically a project like this would have been screenprinted and would take alot less time. But...since I have yet to master screenprinting, I did this the onld fashioned way. Stencil!

About The Bicycle Frame Show

Sopo Bicycle Cooperative is your community bicycle repair shop. We make bicycle repair affordable by helping you do it yourself, and we believe in doing this in a safe community space where everyone feels welcome.

The Bicycle Frame Show is a celebration of everything we love about life: riding bicycles, making things beautiful, working together, creating culture, inspiring each other, and claiming Atlanta as a place where we can do these things.

We borrowed an idea from established group shows like the Vinyl Show and the Boombox Show. We wondered if designing on a bicycle frame was possible and whether artists would be interested in participating. We didn't know what we were getting ourselves into...

Almost all of the bicycles in the show are ordinary donations we received. We even taught bicycle repair with them by having folks new to Sopo remove their parts. While we were sandblasting and priming the frames, we received an overwhelming response to our open call for artists, and we weren't sure we could meet every request. In the end, we distributed close to 40 bicycles.

The purpose of The Bicycle Frame Show is put rideable works of art on the road, to raise some cash for our operating budget without turning to big corporations for help, and to help us be a part of a diverse and dynamic creative community. You can make this happen by buying a piece, building it into a working bike (hopefully at Sopo!), and taking it for a ride.

A million thanks to Radial Cafe for the longtime support and for being a partner in environmental responsibility, to Epidemik Coalition for designing our posters and hangtags, to DGS Powdercoating for the sandblasting, to Sean McGlincy for the beautiful photographs, Nathan Bolster and Zach Wolfe at Studio 900 for lending their space for our photo shoot, Ben Brian for rigging up the bikes, to the artists for turning an idea for a show into a reality that transcends imagination, and to the entire Sopo Bicycle Cooperative community for growing everyday.

Sopo Bicycle Cooperative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to create equitable access to bicycling by providing affordable bicycle maintenance services and education. All donations to Sopo are tax deductible. The shop is located in the East Atlanta Village at 465-C Flat Shoals Avenue. Yea! I sold my first painting to a stranger! I previously mentioned that my paintings are currently up at Lola Ricci Salon on Marietta street. Well, I got an email, week before last that a painting has sold. Someone bought Bird Brain. This is very exciting for me since all other sold paintings went to family and friends. Family and friends support me and this I greatly appreciate but now an unknown has a painting of mine in their home...pretty cool.

Justin is helping me post some more paintings on my etsy site, please check it out in the coming days and forward the link along. I'm trying to push the service of personalized/custom paintings from photographs. Cross your fingers ;)

The Holidays are over

I've taken my paintings down from Bill Hallman and now they are up at a salon called Lola Ricci (www.lolaricci.com) Right now I'm not up on the site as a featured artist but maybe that will happen at some point. I intend to put these paintings up on my etsy site as well.

Additionally, I have been doing something new with my paintings. I have been framing them in somehwat elaborate frames. Most of the ones I have done I can't post as they are gifts but I did just complete one of Justin and I that I am quite proud of. Hopefully you will enjoy it too!

I really liked how my chair series worked out so I decided to try it again with another image.

Next I wanted to paint what a Peeping Tom may see through a window. I think I've added some dimension with this painting that I haven't achieved with my other ones, not to mention this is my biggest painting to date (15.75x15.75) I'm making another version of this with different color choices...cross your fingers that it turns out well ;)

I've decided to start a collection that I want to try to get shown somewhere. I form emotional attachments to my pieces so it's difficult for me to part mith them. So, I recreated some my favorites in a larger size. Here is what I have so far (jump to the bottom of this post for the newer pieces).

I redid this piece, it is 8x10. This is a painting based on a fisheye photograph I took of a Miss Van graffiti piece in San Francisco.

I added this piece, as I think it fits with the rest of the collection.

Once upon a time I got some pictures developed and they accidentally slipped in my packet a pic of a gun. This was a truly well taken photo so clear it was actually pretty. I saved it wanting to do something with it and I finally did.
